It's likely that I shall drive to the lessons. Is there plenty of car parking? 6. I'm concerned about wearing the right shoes. What do you suggest? 7. I have a young child. Are there any facilities where I can leave my child safely whilst I'm dancing? 8. How accessible is the leisure centre by bus? Answer 1: Do I have to come with a dance partner? No, we're very happy for you to come along on your own. In fact a lot of people come on their own. However, if you have a partner we'd be delighted to see them and of course you'll have someone to practise with during the week. Now that's a bonus! Return to the top Answer 2: Will I have to attend every week? We would like to see you as often as possible. However, you don't have to make a commitment to attend every single week. Return to the top Answer 3: How long is a course of lessons? You don't have to book, come along any week, at any point. It's a pay as you go, just dip in and out as you please. We cover the basics every week, so you'll never be lost. Return to the top Answer 4: After I've learnt the basics, what can I do to improve? After you've mastered the basics we would recommend that you move on to an improvers class which we are intending to set up in a few months time. This would normally be when you are confident with the 'core beginners repertoire', with accurate timing at club speed Salsa. When you feel that you want the challenge of going that bit further let us know and we'll explain the options open to you. Return to the top Answer 5: It's likely that I shall drive to the lessons. Is there plenty of car parking? The Oaklands Leisure Centre has a large car park situated right outside the main doors. So, it's an ideal place to arrive by car. Return to the top Answer 6: I'm concerned about wearing the right shoes. What do you suggest? First of all consider what you'll be comfortable in. However, it is a purpose built room with a dance floor so it's vital that footwear doesn't damage it. So, no stilettos ladies. Trainers are best left at home because they grip the floor and make turns difficult. Flipflops are a health and safety hazard. Finally, soles that leave black marks must be avoided. Return to the top Answer 7: I have a young child. Are there any facilities where I can leave my child safely whist I'm dancing? Unfortunately the Oaklands Leisure Centre doesn't offer child supervision in the evenings. Return to the top Answer 8: How accessible is the leisure centre by bus? The Oaklands Leisure Centre is accessible by the No.4 bus which can be caught in the area of York Train Station. Alternatively the No.1 from the Theatre Royal takes you to Acomb High Street.
